The RIVERS:
The Lower Youghiogheny River is a Class III River (under normal water levels) The run is about 8 miles and will take approximately 5 hours. There are 16 rapids including the famous, "Dimple Rock". The rafts are 6 - 8 passenger self bailing rafts (they can't sink, but they can and will flip over). This is for beginners and the less skilled rafter
The Upper Youghiogheny River is a Class V River (under normal water levels) 115'+ Vertical Drop Per Mile on 14 Class IV and 6 Class V Rapids Back To Back! You Have 3 Guests and an Expert Guide per Self-Bailing Raft. This is for expierenced rafters ONLY! We RAFT BOTH RIVERS ON SATURDAY THIS YEAR

The OUTFITTERS:  We've had good luck with these guys, so we are using The Ohiopyle Trading Post again. I have negotiated the Following:

The CAMPGROUND: TALL OAKS has hosted all of my rafting trips and we are returning there. Once again I have rented the Pavilion which has built-in BBQ pits, plenty of picnic tables, space for setting up tents and for The campground also has showers, laundry, cabins, trailer hook-ups, gameroom, and store. The basic campground rate is $11 per nite/per person and includes all the above. It is your responsibility to pay for your camping when you arrive. Anyone wishing to rent a cabin or bring a trailer/camper/Winnebago or has a special request, should call Tall Oaks at 724-329-4777. Click here for a Printable Jpg of the Campground Brochure (272k)

The PLAN: It's Pretty Simple Really. After your shortened workweek, thanks to Monday being Labor Day, You leave work Friday exhilarated and head towards Ohiopyle, PA. (some people actually take off this Friday to get a head start) You arrive at the wooded campground and setup your tent and begin to party. You awake Saturday Morning and after a delicious breakfast (that you make - ha, you thought it was provided;^), jump in your car and head towards the rafting center, where we group up and hit the river. After a day of whitewater and ferocious water battles, you come back to the campground and prepare for the Grand Potluck Dinner. After dinner, we all sit around the campfire consuming our favorite adult beverage and retell fun stories and adventures of the past. Sunday - you awake, pack up your shit and get home to relax and reflect on the events of the weekend. or seek more adventures, maybe you stay at the campground and play frisbee or volleyball, or maybe you head out to explore the Laurel Caverns, ride the natural waterslide, check out the petting zoo or visit one of Frank Lloyd Wrights two houses in the area.

TO GET ON THIS TRIP: Send FULL PAYMENT for each person rafting to Mary McKaig (see cost breakdown below). Please DO NOT send the campground money; however, please let me know how many nights you intend to camp. I will say it is VERY IMPORTANT to get your money in for the Upper Youghiogheny ASAP. The park only allows so many rafters on that river per day, they only release water on Fridays, so it sells out quickly! If you know you will be going - please send money ASAP.

WHAT TO BRING: Mandatory - I ask that every car/couple bring a 10 lb. bag of Charcoal for the BBQ pits. Also, Bring a plate, entree, dessert or snack for the big Saturday Night Potluck Dinner. (This does not mean a bag of chips, It means Burgers, Ka-bobs, Ribs, Steaks, Cakes...) Please remember to bring enough to satisfy the amount of people in your group/car to equalize what is brought and eaten. I will not be keeping track of what is being brought for the pot-luck dinner, I do suggest that you be creative. Suggested- Camping gear, bug spray, a pair of shoes you can throw away, utensils, chairs, all the food and drink to last you an entire weekend, clean clothes, dear God - bring deodorant, towels, quarters for the showers, (50¢ for 10 minutes) Good Spirits and whatever else you can think of. I do know that there is a store and a beer distributor close to the camp ground.

T-Shirts:We made T-Shirts up for the Hang Gliding Adventure weekend, but we have no more. If I get an order of 12 or more, I can place another order, but they will cost about $18 a piece (less if I buy more) but they came out great, so email me if you would like to "get on the list" at rookie@centracorp.com       They like this:
SXT Shirts

IMPORTANT STUFF: First and Foremost - YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR: Your Transportation, food, drink, clothes, camping, health and everything else. I set this trip up to be a simple as possible to get a lot of people to come. 50 came last year and I expect more this year. Second- The balance you pay now, is for the Rafting. Campground costs are your responsibility, and will be paid when you arrive, but the site will be reserved. There may be a cut-off for the numbers of rafters, So get that money in. (Hey, we ain't talking a lot of dough here)

DIRECTIONS: From Baltimore or Washington: Take I-70 West, Then take I-68 West, exit on left, (be careful, don't take Rt.68) Keep Going, Go about 20 miles past Frostberg and take Exit 14B at Uniontown/Oakland (also known as the Deep Creek Recreational Area). Bear Right on the exit ramp and prepare to make a left at the flashing lights onto RT40/National Pike West. (there is a McDonalds at this exit, and its a good place for a pee break). Head west on RT40, go for about 25 miles to Farmington, make a left onto Rt.381 and go about 1.5 miles and make a left onto Camp Riamo Road (Look for the Tall Oaks Signs) Continue straight thru stopsign and look for campground on left, stop at the Check-In and tell them that your with Sick n' Twisted. From anywhere else: Please call the Campground at 724-329-4777. Directions to the rafting put-in will be handed out Thursday Night/Friday Morning. See Map
